“Growing Up” is an award-winning short animation that was created in the context of the Multimedia Animation class, at the University of Madeira. Made and directed by me and Paulo Olim, the project was later submitted to the Madeira Film Festival 2013. There, it was awarded the 1st prize in the Student Film Comptetition. Since then, it is part of the Madeira Film Festival’s Official Selection.
Synopsis: When you find yourself walking along the levadas, deep inside Madeira Island’s endemic forest – the Laurisilva Forest, you can hear the Madeira Firecrest (Bisbis) and if you’re lucky enough, see it flying around. Then, you will start to wonder: what are their habits? Why are they so nervous? In this animated short, you will find all these questions answered in a funny way, when a series of unfortunate events start to happen to a small bird.
This project had a development period of one month and my roles included the story development, 2D scenery and background creation, animation and co-direction.
